Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Are you sure you want to say it a third time? Because you know what’ll happen. Or, maybe you don’t. So go ahead, let’s hear it a third time; let ‘er rip and unleash the Ghost With the Most. Beetlejuice!
Tim Burton’s 1988 horror/fantasy/comedy features Michael Keaton as a grotesque, obnoxious, and very funny ghost who hires himself out as a ‘bio-exorcist’ to rid haunted houses of their living occupants. The house in question is the New England home of Adam and Barbara Maitland (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis), a happy, adorable couple who just happen to be dead.
According to the rules of the afterlife, as laid down in The Handbook for the Recently Deceased, they are required to haunt their home for 125 years. The new occupants are Charles, Delia and Lydia Deetz, played by Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara and Winona Ryder. Step-Mom Delia, a would be artist, wants to tear the old house apart and remake it as a modern art monstrosity, something Charles is desperate to avoid. Lydia, a black-clad goth teen, is just oooky and spooky enough to be able to see the ghosts haunting her new house.
Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice is the star of the show, and you can be him this Halloween!
Beetlejuice Costume Elements
- A suit – either his signature black and white stripe or a dark dingy one
Or…
- A black and white check shirt/khaki pants combo
The magic for Beetlejuice really is all in the make up:
- White face
- Blacked out eyes
- Wild, big greenish hair
- Dirty, all-around dead look
These guys have done a great job with this costume, showing each of the two ways to do this look! And, we love the group costume idea, adding in the Lydia and Miss Argentina characters.
There you go: one of the most classic ‘80s movie characters ever for your Halloween costume! Now go put on a little Day-O, do a dance around the dining room table, and enjoy your night.
IT’S SHOWTIME!
