Ricky Schroder had quite the audience in the early ‘80s thanks to his work as the spoiled yet still endearing 12-year-old Ricky Stratton.
Beginning in 1982, Silver Spoons lasted for the majority of the ‘80s with its last episode premiering in 1987. In total, it lasted 5 seasons for a culmination of 116 episodes.
If you opened up any 1984 teen magazine, you were sure to see AT LEAST one picture of Rick Schroder, if not a highly coveted full-sized poster.
But despite the fame, Schroder wasn’t ever truly able to live up to his Silver Spoons success (which you could argue, since he did star in the popular TV shows NYPD Blue and 24).
It’s just hard to consider him as successful as some of his former cast mates including the comedic icon Jason Bateman and the generational icon Alfonso Ribeiro.
Schroder reportedly said of his time on the sitcom:
I was never really comfortable doing comedy. Though it was good the first couple of years, there were problems, and it became a stifling experience. I was happy it ended.
Still, Schroder got back together with the gang in 2013 to reunite for the TODAY show, and continues working as an actor and producer to this day.
According to IMDB, his last project was playing Dolly Parton’s father in “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors.”
He turns 46 today, and he totally hasn’t lost any of his boyish looks.
