If you’re an ’80s purist and find today’s Christmas specials to be a lot less tasteful that the ones you’re used to, you’re in luck. IFC is looking to “Make The Holidays ’80s Again” with a new special.
“Whatever happened to the kind of crazy-yet-cozy holiday specials that blanketed the early winter airwaves of the 1980s? Unceremoniously killed by infectious ’90s jadedness?” questioned IFC’s Ben Cochran in his report.
“Slow fade out at the hands of early-onset millennial ennui? Whatever the reason, nixing the tradition was a huge mistake.”
The prescribed remedy for this is a new special called Joe’s Pub Presents: A Holiday Special.
According to the report, the special is “a celeb-studded extravaganza in the glorious tradition of yesteryear featuring Bridget Everett, Jo Firestone, Nick Thune, Jen Kirkman, house band The Dap-Kings, and many more.”
Cochran cited some pretty amazing ’80s specials as examples in pointing out what voids should be filled by the new special. The examples included, “Andy Williams Christmas – It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year, A Muppet Family Christmas, The Star Wars Holiday Special and more. Joe’s Pub Presents: A Holiday Special is scheduled for Wednesday December 21 at 10PM on IFC.
