When it comes to power ballads, the decade filled with them happens to be the 1980s. 80s power ballads were almost a staple on the radio and for the most part held enough steam as some of the biggest pop songs to date. The Fayetteville Observer created a list of their Top 5 80s Rock Power Ballads and it has some pretty heavy tracks.
Do You Agree With This Top 5 80s Power Ballads List?
“The 1980s brought us a lot: Reaganomics, the fall of the Berlin Wall — and the rock and roll power ballad,” according to The Fayetteville Observer.
“REO Speedwagon, who perform at the Crown Theatre on Saturday, had two of the biggest with ‘Keep on Loving You’ and ‘Can’t Fight this Feeling.’ Here are some more — wave those Bic lighters proudly!”
The list contains, Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin,'” Sister Christian’s “Night Ranger,” Heart’s “Alone” and Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford’s “Close My Eyes Forever.”
This is without a doubt one of the most formidable lists of 80s power ballads and it’s hard to rip any one of them from the list. Though, we can’t help but feel that you can’t have a list like this without a Def Leppard song.
You’ve probably guessed which track we wanted to include on this list. It’s Def Leppard’s “Love Bites.” This beautiful track from 1987 is one of the most heartfelt and relatable 80s power ballads to date. So, now that we’ve shared ours, we’re ready to hear what you have to say. Let us know if you agreed with this list or if you have a personal favorite that’s missing.
