The 80s fashion revival is one than we have been watching closely. It looks like Saint Laurent, another high-fashion brand is turning to the decade for some inspiration. In a new report, the 80s seemed to shine more for the women’s clothing than the men’s pieces.
Saint Laurent Joins 80s Fashion Revival at Paris Show
“Anthony Vaccarello showed his FW18 Ready-to-Wear collection for Saint Laurent in Paris yesterday,” according to Highsnobiety.
“Highlighting the glamor of the esteemed luxury fashion house, the runway was set opposite the Eiffel tower in the Fontaine Du Trocadero with spotlights flashing from every angle.”
We reported earlier this week that the New York Fashion Week featured plenty of retro 80s styles, mostly associated with accessories and makeup styles. However, the Saint Laurent show seemed to take a little more forward approach to the clothing pieces. It was particularly interesting that the Highsnobiety report points out that the men’s pieces were mostly tied to the 70s, with women’s pieces tied to the 80s.
“For womenswear, Vaccarello returned to the ’80s with a nearly entirely black collection featuring leg-exposing leather shorts, oversized fur coats, exaggerated shoulder pads and embellished head wraps,” according to the report.
It looks like the accessories, while not all that dominant in this show, did play a big role in bringing the outfits together. From some of the photos, you can tell there was a clear goal and certain 80s fashion revival that Vaccarello was going for.
