A new gaming epic by the name of 198X is putting a spin on some classic 80s 8-Bit games and we thought that you folks would love it. 198X hails from a Swedish developer who has turned some of the classic 8-Bit games we loved into an entire story.
198X Puts A Spin on 80s 8-Bit Games
“Swedish developer Hi-Bit Studios describes 198X as an ‘arcade epic’ and ‘a coming-of-age story told through multiple games and genres.’ It’s currently on Kickstarter, and at the time of writing has raised $34,206 of its $56,830 goal with 25 days left in its campaign,” according to PCGamer.
“It stars Kid, a teenager who falls in love with the five games at his local arcade in Suburbia, all of which exist as separate, playable games within 198X.”
One of the games resembles the Streets of Rage game that was released in 1991, though it was not released in the 80s, there are a lot of 80s gamers who adopted it and had a pretty good time playing it. The game also includes a game about a ninja on a personal quest. This looks to be somewhat of a nod to the 1988 NES classic Ninja Gaiden.
There are also three more games within the epic, one of which is a racing game that resembles some of your favorite 80s 8-Bit racing games. Not only are the graphics incredible 80s, the entire premise of the game seems to pay homage to the decade. To learn more about the game, click here.
