Rock of Ages is a wild 80s musical that celebrates some of the most intense aspects of 80s metal from a decade we absolutely adore. The musical is now making its way to Akron and should be bringing all of the intensity you’d expect from an 80s hair-metal show.
80s Musical Rock of Ages Heads To Akron
“It’s not often that a rock musical’s five-piece band gets in on the action on stage. But in this show — set on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood — band members dress in metalhead costumes and play an integral part in the story as backup musicians for narcissistic lead singer character Stacee Jaxx,” according to Ohio.com.
“In this jukebox musical, the band and cast rock out to 28 classic ’80s tunes by Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison and more, with iconic songs ranging from Poison’s ‘Nothin’ But a Good Time’ to Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin’. ‘”
Though, the report claims that the musical is a “mockery of 80s excess” we like to think of it as a trip down memory lane with some pretty awesome music. The 80s was a pretty excessive decade, though, some may argue that is what made it such a special decade.
After all, there are so many modern-day pop culture additions that utilize 80s nostalgia to give it that extra bit of flavor. Either way, the show looks to be pretty fun for those who decide to attend. Let us know if you’ll be heading out to catch Rock of Ages, as it makes a stop in Akron.
