Every decade has its fair share of one hit wonders and honestly, the 80s had plenty of them. However, the question still remains, are 80s one hit wonders better than those from decades that followed? It’s easy to see that the quality of the one hit wonders from the 80s is pretty up there.
Are 80s One Hit Wonders Better Than Decades Following?
When you think of songs that meet the criteria for a one hit wonder, there are some tracks that you would never even assume. There’s Modern World’s “I Melt With You,” Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love,” Tommy Tutone’s “867-5309/ Jenny” and many more. Most of these hits still receive plenty of play on radio stations that tote the hits of 80s.
“Almost every decade has its fair share of one-hit wonders and this was no different in the 80s since a lot of bands came on the scene trying to make a name for themselves but only succeeded in getting off that one big hit,” according to TVOvermind.
“Some of them have stuck around for a while trying to reach that peak again but not a lot of them have done so, and the one-hit wonders have had the least amount of success in that regard.”
Whether or not the bands stuck around is one thing, however, the hits they produced were timeless and for that, we have to say the 80s really has an amazing lineup of one hit wonders. So what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
